This year, the city of Opelousas celebrates 300 years of history, culture and tradition. This annual event, which marks the day slaves in Texas first learned of their freedom, will be celebrated on Saturday, July 1, 2017, in the historic Old Town Square.
This two-day event is held annually at the Jambilee Arena in Opelousas, and throughout the event, there is dancing and live music in the Opelsas Farmers Market Pavilion. In addition to tasty food, the festival will feature more than 70 vendors selling fresh produce, food, craft beer, wine, spirits and more. The unveiling is scheduled for January 14 at 12 noon and will coincide with the unveiling of a new exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Natural History. The exhibition, which features works by local artists, craftsmen and artists from across the state of Louisiana, will take place from January 15 to 20, 2017 at 10 am.
